The Compagnies Franches de la Marine of Canada
Toward the Creation of an Empire
The garrison was now firmly established in New France, where the armed forces had taken root and dominated the government. The Canadian militia was well organized and a redoutable combat force. The colony's enemies, whether British, American or Amerindian, could not overcome its revolutionary fighting tactics.
